Dofasco 2000 Trail

The Dofasco 2000 Trail is a 9.5km (in one direction) multi-use trail for hiking and biking in Stoney Creek (Hamilton), Ontario, Canada.

Trail information:

• Parking: Paid parking (CAD8.50 flat rate for the entire day, purchased on site from a machine inside the lot) at 444 First Road East, Stoney Creek, ON, L8J 2X9 (parking for the Saltfleet Conservation Area) (~10 spots, somewhat secluded)
• Alternate Parking (gated lot; no re-entry privileges): Paid parking (CAD8.50 flat rate for the entire day, purchased on site from a machine inside the lot) at 185 Ridge Rd, Stoney Creek, ON L8J 2W1 (parking for the Devil's Punchbowl Conservation Area) (~20 spots)
• Terrain: Best ridden on a sunny day, and 1-2 days after a rainy day. From West to East: somewhat sandy (but still possible using a gravel or hybrid bike's thin tires); mix of fine and coarse aggregate (if you venture into Saltfleet Conservation Area); quiet paved road; boardwalk; short singletrack at the end (and a small bridge).
• Food near the trail: Between 6-10 food options within a 3km radius, but it will require driving on Hwy 20 to get to any of them. or bring your own if you park at the Saltfleet parking lot (there are a small number of picnic tables in a shady area adjacent to the Saltfleet parking lot for visitors to picnic at. Portable BBQs & fires are not permitted.).
• Washrooms: As of 2023 there was a portable toilet at 444 First Road East, Stoney Creek, ON, L8J 2X9 (parking for the Saltfleet Conservation Area). If it's not there, you can use the Tim Horton's about 3 km south on Hwy 20 South before and/or after your ride. Or use any restaurant you will be eating from, or use the Pioneer gas station nearby.
• Other facilities: Devil's Punchbowl Conservation Area, which has a waterfall. You are parking there anyway, so might as well see the waterfall without having to get off your bike. You will also have the option of a quick detour to go through the Saltfleet Conservation Area

Suggested day trip:

• Bring your own food.
• Park at the 444 First Road East, Stoney Creek, ON, L8J 2X9 (parking for the Saltfleet Conservation Area) NOTE: Only the parking lot of Saltfleet explicitly mentions that the parking permit may be used on date of purchase at Devil's Punchbowl, Eramosa Karst, Felker's Falls and Chippewa Rail Trail Parking Lot.
• Visit the Dofasco 2000 Trail, the Saltfleet Conservation Area and the Devil's Punchbowl Conservation Area.
• Picnic at 444 First Road East, Stoney Creek, ON, L8J 2X9 (parking for the Saltfleet Conservation Area). As of 2023 there was a portable toilet there as well.
• Your parking permit allows you to visit:
• Eramosa Karst (6km of hike/bike trails)
• Felker's Falls
• and the Chippewa Rail Trail (this is a 15km (in one direction) rail trail for cycling and can be a day trip in itself).
• A very short drive from the Saltfleet Conservation Area, there is the Battlefield Monument and the Battlefield House Museum & Park National Historic Site, the site of the Battle of Stoney Creek of June 6, 1813. It is a significant turning point in early Canadian history as part of the War of 1812, where 700 British troops defeated 3,000 American soldiers in the middle of the night.
