Brick Separator Vic Viper
Every large LEGO set comes with one of those orange brick separators. For an Adult fan of LEGO (AFOL), purchasing many large sets will give you plenty of those; usually more than you could ever need.
Yes, the thin part that actually pries bricks and plates apart breaks down with usage. It is also very nice to have spares so that you do not have to go very far to find one. However, it is also a fun challenge to come up with a use for the separators as an actual part of your LEGO build.
I was toying around with ideas for using the many brick separators I had when the idea to build a Vic Viper style starship came up.
"Vic Viper" is a style of LEGO build popular amongst AFOLs (Adult Fans of LEGO) when building a LEGO spaceship/starfighter. It is based off of the protagonist starship of the Gradius videogame franchise. I used to own a fork of the Gradius franchise called "Life Force" (aka "Salamander") for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) when I was a child and the game featured the Vic Viper spaceship as the protagonist so I am familiar with the Vic Viper style of starfighters.
For the uninitiated, the Vic Viper style must follow these simple guidelines:
- Dual forward prongs (like the teeth of a viper) at the front of the ship
- Single dorsal vertical fin at the back of the ship
- Lateral wings towards the rear of the ship
This LINK has an illustration that pretty much says it all.
